Look Beyond is an exclusive compilation that leaves a sign in the evolution of Electronica & Dub, with an experimental and clubbing touch. 15 songs dedicated to all the down beat fans and djs all around the world. Every song is a different kind of Dub, sometimes fat and sometimes glitch, hypnotic or looping, original but… strictly never over 108 bpm. We have a lot of words to spend on Look Beyond, but first of all we wanna tell you how and when Look Beyond was born.
It’s the beginning of 2015. It was 2014 when we began to publish a campaign on social medias where evocative images of nature and everything “natural” were combined with a hasthag, and that hastag was always a reinterpretation of the image meaning, in a modern – human – unusual key. If image was a clear representation of something, the hashtag revealed another something. So, a rock painting became a social network, a peacock a colored advertising, sky rotation a clock, and so on. This is our way of looking beyond: reinterpreting.
At the same moment, image after image on social medias like Facebook or Google Plus, Miraloop studios were involved in following the same mental approach, but in music production. Reinterpreting dub & reggae influences, which today is also common in the mainstream pop, mixed with something more deep and unconscious coming from electronica music worlds. After a spring of experimentation and ideas, in summer Miraloop Spades record label reached number 61 in Reggae-Dub Beatport Top 100 with “Find a Place”, and before Christmas reached the number 1 always in Reggae-Dub Beatport Top 100, with “Remind”.
Dub is a music genre which grew out of reggae music in the 1960s, and is commonly considered a subgenre, though it has developed to extend beyond the scope of reggae. Music in this genre consists predominantly of instrumental remixes of existing recordings and is achieved by significantly manipulating and reshaping of the recordings, usually by removing the vocals from an existing music piece, and emphasizing the drum&bass parts (this stripped-down track is sometimes referred to as a ‘riddim’). Other techniques include dynamically adding extensive echo, reverb, panoramic delay, and occasional dubbing of vocal or instrumental snippets from the original version or other works.
Look Beyond contains not only the Dub in its original meaning (instrumental b-sides of the songs), but also the Dub as it is commonly named: music that begins and ends as Dub music, without being a b-side of something. Creating and selecting the compilation, we also completely dubbed some other productions, not creating an instrumental but really changing the original sense of the track.
